ASSISI IN SOLIDARITY
with the children of the world - O.N.L.U.S.
Iniziative of the
Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi
|
 |
|
The Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi were born in 1702 to help
the city of Assisi, and to promote the values of spirituality and of solidarity.
Since 1902 the Sisters have gone forth from Assisi to carry the message of “peace
and good” into various countries, and to offer their service to the poorest.
By our presence we want to be sisters who share the anxieties and the hopes of
those who suffer, and become the voice of those who have no voice.
Paying attention to “the signs of the times,” we feel that today we are especially
committed to those who are afflicted with AIDS and to the countless orphans afflicted
with the same disease.
We are open and available to other situations of emergency wherever human beings
suffer.

MIssionaries over 100 years we are now established in 13 Countries;
we are actively serving in hospitals, in clinics, in the care of the victims
of AIDS, in teaching children in schools, in caring for lepers who are partly
self-sufficient, and in providing help for needy families.
We conduct, furthermore, homes for young people in difficulty, homes for aged,
and centers for the acceptance of street kids.
In numerous Nutrition Centres we try to combat with every possible means the
specter of famine and misery that often has disastrous consequences on many children
in the world.
In Assisi we have a center for collecting and distributing humanitarian help
in needy areas.
In 2001 we established our ONLUS. In the same year we signed the “Document
of Principles for Support from a distance.”
Since 2002 we are part of the “Permanent Forum SAD” in which we have signed the “Document
of the Criteria of Quality” making our own the “Guarantee of Privacy” obliging
ourselves to safeguard the dignity and respect of those who help us.

For about 45 years we have been promoting Adoption from afar
in 9 countries: Romania, Kenya, Zambia, Brazil, The Philippines, Russia, Korea,
China and Indonesia.
There are adoptions of groups and adoptions of individuals. Adoptions of groups
are prevalent for children whose life is at risk, because often they are not
sure of one meal a day, lack essential medicines, and have no possibility of
going to school.
In the last thirty years more than 55,000 have benefited by
this form of adoption.
